About Jim

A few words….

For me, writing has sure changed in 20 years. When I started out as an advertising copywriter (JWT Wellington, 1990), I was office bound, pounding a large green IBM electronic typewriter, and working on newspaper, magazine, radio and television advertising. Internet? What’s that?

Now, I roam around a home office in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, tapping a small white laptop, working for agencies, magazines and direct clients who are mostly hundreds of kilometres away.

My week now typically includes editorial, web sites and online advertising, brand development, direct marketing and annual reports. There’s only the occasional print advertising campaign, though I still love doing concept work.

I write articles for North & South, vo2max, Endurance, Multisport and other magazine titles; as well as for several newspapers and sports news web sites. I won a Qantas media award in 2008, for a North & South feature.

I have freelanced since the mid 1990s. I’ve worked for a diverse range of advertising and design agencies in Wellington and Auckland; including a spell of over two years at Saatchi & Saatchi Wellington, voted at the time as one of the top ten advertising agencies in the world.

After working hours? I’m a multi-sport addict, so almost every day sees me out riding, kayaking or running.
